Electric-Propulsion Aircraft: How High Voltage Is Reshaping Aerospace Wire Insulation

Aircraft electrification is moving beyond auxiliary systems into propulsion, environmental control, actuation and higher-power distribution. For large aircraft, this changes voltage levels, power density, cable routing and thermal management as an integrated system.

High-voltage wiring concept for a next-generation electric-propulsion aircraft

Higher voltage and fast-switching power electronics place greater emphasis on corona resistance, partial-discharge behavior and long-term electrical reliability, particularly when lower air pressure at altitude is considered. These properties must be evaluated as part of the complete conductor, insulation, shielding, connector and waveform design.

The same wiring can face thermal cycling, vibration, bending, abrasion and exposure to aviation fluids. A useful insulation system therefore needs a balanced combination of electrical performance, thermal durability, chemical resistance and mechanical toughness.

Oasis® composite films combine polyimide with heat-sealable fluoropolymer coatings for aerospace wire and cable applications. Processing compatibility, interlayer bonding, stripping behavior and the finished wire construction all require validation before production use.

Leadingforce will support Qnity in expanding the next-generation aviation materials market by connecting material information, samples and supply support with cable manufacturers and aerospace customers in China. Final material selection remains subject to wire-level testing, applicable standards and customer qualification.
